Sophie “Sue” Pantea passed away in her sleep in the morning May 2, at the age of 89. She was raised in Akron to the late John and Caroline Janczewski. Sue married Walter R. Pantea and they moved to Barberton where they lived and raised their family. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, making quilts, crocheting and fishing with corn and hot dogs. All of her life was devoted to taking care of her family. We love and thank her for that. Preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Pantea; daughter, Janice Pantea; sons, Ronald and Thomas Pantea; sister, Helen Chapman; brothers, John and Chet Janczewski; Sophie is survived by daughters, Linda (Jim) Sutherland, Diane (Randy) Williams, Carolyn and Joanne Pantea; son, Walter J. Pantea; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Sipos; daughter-in-law, Cindy Pantea; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She also leaves behind her very good friend and neighbor of over 50 years, Mrs. Elizabeth Buckhor. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Altercare of Wadsworth for the care of Sophie and her family and also Father Joe for coming to give her last rites. Mass of Christian burial will be May 7, 10 a.m., at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 204 Sixth St. N.W., Barberton. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends May 6, 5-8 p.m. and also May 7, 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
