Arthur (Art) John Gorman

Arthur (Art) John Gorman, 95, passed away 12:50 a.m., July 1, at Springview Manor Nursing Home in Lima. Art was born June 11, 1921, in Akron, to John Pue Gorman and Anna (Schaber) Gorman who preceded him in death. He was previously married to Evelyne Leone Stender who passed away Aug. 31, 1986. He proudly served during World War II with the United States Navy from April 24, 1942, until his honorable discharge Feb. 8, 1946. He was a graduate of Kent State University. Arthur was an industrial arts teacher in several Ohio schools prior to his retirement. He loved dancing, especially ballroom dancing and watching Lawrence Welk. In his younger years, Art enjoyed playing softball and was a member of the Lucky’s Bar softball team for years. Art was a member of Saint Augustine Church, Barberton. Survivors include: Sons, William “Bill” Arthur Gorman, Lodi and John Russell Gorman, Wapakoneta, Ohio. Granddaughters Ashley (Joseph) Maina, Pine Bush, New York and Kayli (Robert) Mayou, Neederland, Texas. Sisters, Mildred Poppenhouse, Akron, Immogene (Francis) Orlando, North Canton, Doris (Leo) Wehrlin, North Canton; brother, James Gorman, Libertyville, Illinois; sister in-law, Mary Gorman, Talmadge. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie (Charles) Staddleman; brother, Carl Gorman; brother-in-law, Richard Poppenhouse and sister-in-law, Rita Gorman. Friends may call July 6, 6-8 p.m., at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton. A funeral mass will take place Thursday, July 7, 10 a.m., at Saint Augustine Church, 204 Sixth Street NW, Barberton. Father Leo Wehrlin, Art’s nephew, will officiate.  A private interment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville.
