Reading club stimulates children

The theme for the Barberton Public Library Winter Reading Club is Reading is Magic. The club meets Saturdays through March 17.

The club promotes literacy skills and offers incentives for children ages birth to 12 years to practice reading, providing motivation for children who are struggling or reluctant readers. Parents are able to participate with their child, which encourages fun bonding time.

Children are provided with a reading log to keep track of their progress when they sign up at the Children’s Department. School age children keep track of their reading hours in 15 minute increments and will earn prizes in two hour increments. Preschool children are able to earn prizes by having parents or caregivers read to them. Participants can also earn prizes by listening to audiobooks, or earn an extra prize by completing a variety of other library related activities.

To sign up or learn about children’s programs, visit the Children’s Department any time.
