Akron 10-year-old shoots self in foot, manhunt underway

Around 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, a 10-year-old male accidentally shot himself in the left foot while at home in the 300 block of Homestead Street, Akron. 

The victim was transported by his mother to Akron Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  

According to the mother, the boy was home alone with his two siblings when he found a handgun that belonged to mom’s boyfriend.  The 10-year-old accidently shot himself.  One of the siblings called the mother who was taking another sibling to work.  Mom came home and took the child to the hospital.

The responding officers signed warrants on mom’s boyfriend, Richard Allen Horton, 35, of Homestead Street.  Horton is wanted for endangering children, having weapons while under disability and tampering with evidence.

Horton is 5’06” and 160 lbs.  Horton is still in possession of the handgun used in the accidental shooting.
