Rodeo teaches bike safety

A group of about 35 children learned about safe bike riding during the annual Barberton Police Bike Rodeo.

The June 9 event was conducted in the Robinson Avenue parking lot of ADRL (Akron Rubber Development Laboratory). In addition to ADRL, sponsorship included Kmart, Akron Children’s Hospital, East of Chicago Pizza, Barberton police and fire departments with the support of many volunteers.

Event organizer Officer Nate Samples said the event went well with everything donated for with no cost to the kids in grades K-5. Safety practices for the young riders included arm signals, avoiding obstacles and being aware of what’s around them.
