Michael Vinay, The City of Barberton, announced that the Resurfacing Program is set to commence on or about June 18.
Tallmadge Asphalt and Concrete out of Kent, Ohio, was selected as the contractor via a bid that was unanimously approved by council.
The program includes a selection of both arterial and residential streets. Street selection is based on several factors, including input from city staff, city council, citizens and the engineering consultant, GPD Group.
“We are fortunate that the residents passed Issue 8 four years ago, which allows us to continue to provide the much needed resurfacing of our streets,” stated Barberton Mayor William B. Judge.
“With this year’s program, we will add to the 70 lane miles of roadway that have already been resurfaced through this funding since 2014.”
Issue 8 funding was also the key driver in the city pursuit and award of $8.8 million in Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS) competitive grant dollars that will see the completion of numerous arterial street enhancements, which are scheduled to start construction in 2020.
