Learn about historic lighthouses

Akron Sail and Power Squadron will be conducting a dinner meeting, Thursday, Sept. 6, at “Pick’s on PLX (Portage Lakes), 530 Portage Lakes Drive.

Author Dick Edington will present photos and information on prominent lighthouses in Ohio (Lake Erie) and Michigan (Lake Michigan and Lake Huron). Emphasis will be on guidelines to capture your best photos of these picturesque landmarks. The presentation will mostly follow the outline of his book: “The Photographers’ Guide to Great Lakes Lighthouses.”

Dick has been a free-lance photographer for many years, specializing in landscapes and nature subjects. His credits include award winning photos in numerous competitions and his images have appeared in calendars and various publications. Exhibits in art centers and libraries have displayed his work.

A social hour with cash bar is at 6:30 p.m. with dinner served at 7. There will be an entree choice of lemon herb chicken or mini meatloaf at $25 per person. Reservations are required.     It is hard for me to believe that someone is so shallow to not see the beauty in these historic lighthouses. Yes, tear them down like every thing else. Put up walls. What a country!!!
