Horace D. Oakes

Horace D. Oakes, of Sarasota passed away Monday Oct. 8,  at the age of 90; he was born April 24, 1928 in Monterey Tennessee. Horace was a teacher in the Akron public schools for many years. He graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Akron. He was a lifelong member and lay speaker at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Barberton. He is survived by loving daughter Sandi and son-in-law Paul Gordon, grandson Jeff (Deanne) Gordon, Tim (Melisa)) Gordon, great-grandchildren, Tonny (Karen), Kerzie, Michael, Zac and Samantha, sister in-law Nell (Van) Costas, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Doris, parents Horace and Winford Oakes, together forever at last. Funeral was at The Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home 1221 53rd Ave E, Bradenton Florida, burial was in the Manasota Memorial Park Bradenton.

    I worked with his wife Doris at PPG during the 1960’s and the 1970’s in the Research Lab. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends.
