Lady Magics, Panthers win conference games

Barberton’s girls basketball team defeated Copley 42-32 to improve to 2-1 (2-0 Suburban League).

Sophie Shifferly (10 points, three 3-pointers, three assists) and Aliyah Rhoden (10 points, six rebounds) led the Magics in scoring. Lanysha Prewitt (7 points, 12 rebounds), Brenna Walker (7 points, one 3-pointer), Hailey Haywood (4 points, six rebounds, three steals), Casey Quinn (3 points, five rebounds) and Haley Anzaldi (1 point) scored for Barberton as well.

Next, Barberton goes on the road to play the defending conference champions in Aurora Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2:30 p.m.

Norton’s girls basketball also won Dec. 5 at home against Cloverleaf, 63-37 to improve to 2-0 (2-0 Portage Trail Conference).

Kelsey Hosey led the Panthers with 13 points and two 3-pointers. Kaylee Murawski followed with 12 points. Madison Burns (9 points), Gabriella Destefano (8), Riley Ballinger (6), Logan Favor (6), Sam Bucha (4), Bailey Shutsa (3) and Nicole Lester (2) rounded out Norton’s scoring.

Next, the Panthers will play a road conference game at Springfield Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2:30 p.m. They will then have a quick turnaround when they host Jackson Monday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
