Magics fall in close game at Lake

Barberton’s girls basketball team fell to 10-10 after losing at Lake, 45-41.

The Magics led most of the game until late in the fourth, when a Lake 3-pointer gave the Blue Streaks a 43-41 lead. After a Magics’ turnover, Lake made two free throws to seal the win.

Sophomore Brenna Walker (11 points, four rebounds, three 3-pointers) and freshman An’taniyha Easter (11 points, two rebounds) led the team offensively. Sophie Shifferly (7 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals), Lanysha Prewitt (4 points), Haley Anzaldi (3), Laney Kaisk (2), Casey Quinn (2) and Aliyah Rhoden (1) also scored for Barberton.

Next, the team celebrates seniors Shifferly, Rhoden, Quinn and Prewitt Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. as they host Medina Highland. The team will look to finish the season with a winning record overall and an 8-4 record in Suburban League games.

    Greg Whitmer has done an amazing job with the girls program. Think back to what it was and think now of where it is at. To be consistently competitive with good quality teams year in and year out is great. He might be the best fit to take over the boys program once Jack decides to leave. He is a true coach.
