Uniontown man sentenced to 12 years for attempted rape

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced that Sage Smerk, 19 of Mayfair Road in Uniontown, plead guilty to a number of charges, including; Attempted Rape, Felonious Assault and Failure to Comply.

The charges are related to an incident last October involving Smerk and a young girl, whom he was babysitting at the time. Smerk left the child home alone and then took off from police when officers attempted to pull him over. The felonious assault and failure to comply charges are related to the ensuing police chase.

Following his guilty plea, Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison Breaux sentenced Smerk to 12 years in prison. He will have to register as a sex offender with the local sheriff every 90 days for the rest of his life
