Barberton’s softball team opened its season with a high-scoring 18-11 loss to Manchester at home.
Sophomore center fielder Kyrstan McDonald led the Magics’ offense with a home run, double, single and three runs driven in. Sophomore left fielder Amanda Hrabusa was a perfect 3-for-3 with one double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Haylee Marr also had two RBIs with one base hit.
Alexis Mayle (single, run, RBI), Madison Harshbarger (walk, run), Laney Kaisk (double, single, run), Haley Anzaldi (double, single, two runs), Karley Klemons (single, walk, run, RBI) and Haylee Hunt (single, run, RBI) rounded out the starting lineup.
Anzaldi started at pitcher and lasted 2 1/3 innings, allowing 13 hits, one walk and 14 runs (10 earned) while striking out one. Marr allowed one hit, one walk, two hit batters and one earned run in 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout. Kaisk finished the game with four innings, allowing seven hits, one walk and three runs (one earned).
The Magics return Tuesday, March 26 as they host Coventry at 5 p.m. They will then play Monday, April 1 at Revere at 4:30 p.m.
