Receive free scholarship help

Barberton’s College Now Advisor Jason Miller will offer a free scholarship session at the Polsky building in room 467 at 225 S. Main St. in Akron, April 10.

The session is designed to help individuals apply for College Now’s Adult Learner Scholarship. The scholarship deadline is Sunday, April 14. Miller can also be found during his office hours at the Barberton Public Library. Those interested can receive help drafting a personal statement, completing necessary requirements and submitting scholarship applications when they visit a College Now advisor.

“This is a great chance for adults looking to return to school to complete their degree to receive assistance and guidance in applying for the scholarship,” said Director of Marketing and Communications Laurel Wilder.

Wilder said the scholarship is for adults 19 and older looking to return to college to obtain their first bachelor’s, associates degree or non-degree certificate such as a license from a technical or vocational program. It is open to adults in Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull counties. Applicants must qualify for the Federal Pell Grant and plan to take at least six credit hours at their chosen institution.

The services offered for adults are student loan debt counseling, talent solutions for employment, re-enrollment solutions and help finding scholarships.

College Now’s mission is to increase postsecondary educational attainment through college and career access advising, financial aid counseling and scholarship and retention services.
