Fall sports teams advance to sectional finals

Barberton picked up sectional semifinal wins from three teams in the OHSAA Tournament.

The volleyball team defeated Akron North in three sets at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. The team won by scores of 25-8, 25-6 and 25-8. Mia Silva led the team in blocks (one), kills (14) and aces (four). Alexis Mayle led the way with 12 digs and Jaryn Morgan had 27 assists.

The boys soccer team won a tightly contested game in the rain at Green, 3-2. Trailing 2-0 in the second half, senior Ameer Hikmat led the team to a win. He scored two goals to tie the game before he was tripped in the box, drawing a penalty kick. The kick was taken by J.D. Alkire, and his shot hit the crossbar and went in. The Magics would hold on for the final 20 minutes to win and advance to the sectional finals at Medina Saturday, Oct. 19 at noon.

The girls soccer team won Oct. 14, 4-2 against Ellet, and will play Thursday, Oct. 17 at Brunswick at 7 p.m. Makenzie Damsa scored three goals while Gabrielle Wintrow scored one in the win against Ellet.
