Falls beats Norton in final seconds

Bailey Shutsa drives past a Black Tiger defender.

A layup with 12 seconds remaining gave Cuyahoga Falls a 45-43 win at Norton.

The Panthers had a chance to go ahead with 22 seconds left, but Bailey Shutsa missed the first free on a 1-and-1 opportunity, and the Black Tigers were able to beat pressure and throw a deep pass to a wide open player under the basket.

Norton had a final chance, as Shutsa passed to Gabriella Destefano in the corner for a contested 3-pointer. Her shot was no good, but her rebound went to Kaylee Murawski on the perimeter, and her desperate attempt rimmed out as the Panthers fell to 9-5 and Cuyahoga Falls improved to 10-5.

Gabriella Destefano led Norton with 11 points and nine rebounds while Bailey Acord and Kaylee Murawski each had 9 points. Riley Ballinger (6), Shutsa (4) and Madison Tatka (4) also scored. Senior standout Chelsea Huffman led the Black Tigers with 18 points.

Norton returns to Portage Trail Conference play Wednesday, Jan. 15 when they host Coventry at 7 p.m.

Riley Ballinger shoots a 3-pointer against Cuyahoga Falls.
