Police department warns against scammers

The Barberton Police Department has been notified about a scam involving a fake traffic violation ticket.

A resident informed the department that they received a citation for speeding, for 15-20 mph over the limit on Brady Avenue, via an email from violations@citygovernment.co.gov. The email claimed to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The citation states they need to pay within 72 hours and they shouldn’t pay with a check by mail, but instead pay online through their EasyPay Center.

Make sure to avoid the scam, and if you receive the email contact the department at 330-745-2181.
