Norton City Council called a special meeting June 24 to create a set of funds to receive and disburse money.

The measure, creating new funds to consolidate capital improvement projects and receive coronavirus relief money, was sent back to committee at the June 22 council meeting. An error left out the creation of a third fund to receive county coronavirus money.

Council also discussed complaints from Parkway Drive residents about tree trimming in the neighborhood that morning.

“I got a couple complaints from people who have an issue with the trees, foliage and brush being cleared out,” Councilman Dan Karant, who represents that ward, said.

Karant said similar clearing had happened last year and the residents felt it “decimated” their neighborhood, particularly with the debris being left behind.

“This was not a planned activity and will be addressed administratively,” city administrator Robert Fowler told council.
