Barberton’s football team didn’t waste any time in their playoff opener against Lakewood, as they scored on their first six drives en route to a 49-0 win.
Junior quarterback Chanden Lee completed eight-of-10 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns. He threw two to Derrick Vaughn (three catches, 74 yards) and one to Charlie Hornacek (two catches, 41 yards). Hayden Macko (one for 12), Cam Macon (one fore three) and Rylan Angeloff (one for four) also caught a pass.
Kaige Lowe led the team in rushing with 75 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Cam Macon rushed for three scores while totaling 27 yards on nine carries. Mason Dewitt (four rushes for 28 yards), Lee (three for 21), Macko (one for 12) and Asim Lateef (three for six) also ran the ball. Defensively, Hornacek intercepted a pass, Roosevelt Andrews and Keyandra Turner each had two sacks and Demarion Cook had one sack. The Magics out gained the Rangers 293-39 in the game.
With the win the Magics improve to 2-5 and advance to the second round of the playoffs. They will travel to Toledo to play No. 4-seeded St. John’s. The Titans are 4-1 and received a first round bye in the tournament.
