Bailey Shutsa scores 2 of her 16 points after stealing the ball against Mayfield.

Norton’s girls basketball team defeated Mayfield, 63-13, to open the 2020-21 season.

Expectations are sky high this season in Norton thanks in part to the guard duo of Bailey Shutsa and Bailey Acord, and they didn’t disappoint in the opener. Shutsa led the team with 16 points and eight steals while Acord had 13 points and seven rebounds. Gabriella Destefano (13 points, seven rebounds), Kaylee Murawski (8 points, five steals, four rebounds) and Riley Ballinger (6 points, two 3-pointers) rounded out the starting lineup.

Sarah Nauer (3 points) and Madison Tatka (2 points, five rebounds) led the way off the bench, while freshman Morgan Hallett came in for the final minute and scored her first career basket. Jill Thomas, Grace Marino, Avery Morr, Macie Robert and Addie Kropp also played for the Panthers.

Norton returns Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. for a tough non-conference game at Medina.
