Weapons fired on East Avenue

Firearms were a factor Friday on East Avenue in Akron, with one gun-wielder arrested and one man shot in separate incidents.
Two men were arrested on weapons and drug charges after a traffic stop Jan. 8.
Officers patrolling the area made an investigative traffic stop on a vehicle in the 2300 block of East Avenue. When they approached the car, the driver, James Weisel, 31 and front seat passenger, Spenser Richardson, 33, both had narcotics in their hand. There was also marijuana visible inside the car. Both men were removed from the car. During a search, Weisel was found to have a loaded illegal handgun in his waistband.
Weisel and Richardson were each charged with possession of drugs. Weisel was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon, improper handling firearm in motor vehicle and having weapons under disability.
Weisel was transported to the Summit County Jail and booked on listed charges. Richardson was transferred into the custody of Stark County, as he had outstanding warrants.
Officers responded to a shots fired call around Friday at 9:15 p.m., in the area of East Avenue and West Wilbeth Road. When they got there, they found the victim, a 26-year-old male, with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center. His injury is not considered to be life-threatening. Officers attempted to question the victim about the incident, but he reportedly was not willing to provide any information or details about the shooting.
Investigators are working to determine where the incident occurred. The incident remains under investigation. There is no additional information available at this time.
