Eugene “Gene” Herbert Frank peacefully completed his earthly journey Jan. 12, surrounded by family in his home in Barberton. He was born Jan. 14, 1943 to Leo and Genevieve Frank in Summerhill, Pennsylvania. He served at Wurtsmith AFB, Michigan, in the US Air Force and used the GI Bill to graduate from St. Francis University, Loretto, Pennsylvania. His degree in Chemistry brought him to Akron where he worked 32 combined years as a Chemist Compounder at Firestone, and General Tire which became Continental Tire of America in Akron and Charlotte. Gene married the former Barbara Irene Hellwig in 1990 and together they enjoyed travel, bowling, golf, and not enough fishing. He loved cars, driving and current events. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Don Frank and Jerry Frank, cousin Suzie Thomas, brother-in-law Bob Braniff and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. He leaves behind wife, Barbara, siblings Denny (Peg) Frank, Easley, South Carolina, and Doreen Braniff, Revloc, Pennsylvania, goddaughter Annette Shrift, Pittsburgh, and many aunts, uncle, and extended family in the Summerhill area. Gene was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) 10 years ago, but his memory remained remarkable. Metastatic cancer took his life sooner than anticipated 25 days after diagnosis. We are grateful for the many wonderful people who have supported us over the years. We extend special thanks to Louise Hellwig, plus Kathy Meyer and Homestead Hospice care team. In lieu of flowers perform an act of kindness in your community. Donations may be made to your favorite charity. Funeral services were handled by Hummel Funeral Home, Akron.
