Panthers, Magics win non-league games

The Lady Magics and Lady Panthers each won close games Jan. 25 against non-league opponents.

Norton pulled out a hard-fought win at Highland, 51-46. Bailey Acord led the team with 14 points and three blocks to go along with five rebounds. Kaylee Murawski added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out in the final minute. Bailey Shutsa followed with an all-around game (9 points, nine steals, five rebounds, five assists). Also scoring were Riley Ballinger (5 points), Gabriella Destefano (4), Madison Tatka (4) and Grace Marino (3).

Highland was led by Kendall McCormick (14 points) and Madison Miller (10).

Norton improved to 15-2 with the win and returns Wednesday, Jan. 27 at home versus Streetsboro at 7 p.m. before playing at Barberton Monday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.

Barberton improved to 5-3 with a 47-43 win against Hathaway Brown. Hailey Haywood and An’taniyha Easter each registered 13 points to lead the Magics, while Brenna Walker (10 points), Maris Ries (7) and Laney Kaisk (4) also scored.

The Magics return with games Wednesday, Jan. 27 at home versus Aurora, Thursday, Jan. 28 at Alliance (both at 7 p.m.) before playing at Lake Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2:15 p.m.
