Norton’s girls basketball team improved to 16-2 (11-0 Metro Athletic Conference) with a 64-21 win at home versus Streetsboro.
The win was the 50th straight for the Lady Panthers in conference games. The team hasn’t lost since Dec. 9, 2017 against Cloverleaf.
Senior Kaylee Murawski had a double-double to lead the team, as she totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds. Riley Ballinger made three 3-pointers for 9 points while Bailey Acord followed with 8 points and eight rebounds.
Also scoring for Norton were Bailey Shutsa (7 points, five steals), Grace Marino (6 points), Sarah Nauer (6), Jill Thomas (6), Madison Tatka (4), Gabriella Destefano (3), Addie Kropp (3) and Morgan Hallett (1).
The Panthers return Monday, Feb. 1 with a rivalry game at Barberton at 7 p.m.
The Magics fell to 5-4 (1-3 Suburban League) with a 36-23 loss to Aurora Jan. 27th. The Magics had a 12-4 lead after one quarter, as two 3-pointers from Brenna Walker preceded triples from Skylar Ramsey and An’taniyha Easter.
Barberton led 18-9 at halftime, as All-Ohio guard Shyanne Sellers was held to just 5 points. Sellers dominated the second half, however, as Aurora scored all 19 third quarter points to take a commanding lead. Sellers finished with 27 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Walker led the Magics with 11 points (three 3-pointers). Also contributing were Aniyah Neloms (4 points), Ramsey (3 points, three rebounds), Easter (3 points, six rebounds), Hailey Haywood (2 points, eight rebounds), Laney Kaisk (7 rebounds) and Maris Ries (six rebounds).
The Magics play twice before hosting the Panthers, as they play at Alliance Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. and at Lake Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2:15 p.m.
