Around 8:30 p.m. Feb. 18, officers responded to Children’s Hospital for a shooting victim. When they got there, they were notified about a 7-year-old boy who sustained a gunshot wound through both feet. The child’s injury is not life-threatening.
Officers spoke with a 22-year-old male, who told them he was babysitting the child in a Romig Road apartment, whom he indicated was his nephew, when he heard a gunshot and realized the child was shot. The man said he then placed the child in the car and he and his girlfriend drove him to the hospital.
Officers developed information and determined that the incident occurred inside the apartment, where at least two other children were present. The apartment was secured and later searched. No firearms were recovered from the apartment or from the vehicle that transported the child to the hospital.
The incident remains under investigation. Detectives are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
