Church remembers the grown-ups at the schools

Like a lot of other churches and civic groups, Barberton First Baptist Church provided backpacks full of school supplies as the new school year dawned.

“We gave 40 backpacks of supplies away,” Pastor Mike Prebynski said.

But some members of the congregation thought something was missing. What about the teachers? Principals? Bus drivers? Cafeteria workers?

Some volunteers from the congregation got together and made sure they got some love, too. The afternoon of Aug. 26, they gathered at the church and pulled together a little gift packet. Each one contained a hand-written note of encouragement and appreciation written by parishioner Barb Betz, two pens, a gift card and some candy.

“There’s one for every teacher and every staff member at every school,” Prebynski said.
