Susan May Kirkland, 64, passed away Sept. 9. She was born in Akron to the late Harry and Ida (White) Luzader, was a Kenmore High School graduate, and worked for Giant Eagle for over a decade. Susan lived in Barberton for many years and was active in the community. She was a member of the Barberton Civitan Club, Barberton Liedertafel Club, Barberton Social Club (GBU), First Hungarian Benefit Society, and the Slovak Catholic Sokol. Susan’s greatest passions were for her plants and reading. When she wasn’t visiting friends, or repotting spider plants she could be found reading the latest Stephen King novel. She instilled a love of reading in her daughters. Donations can be made in Susan’s honor to the Barberton Public Library where a memorial will be installed. She is survived by her daughters, Mara Lynn Kirkland, Maggie May (John) Rose, and Nadine Pearl Kirkland (Rob Finn); grandchildren, Brandon Erden, Angelica Kirkland, Hayleigh Whipp; John and Lillian Rose; lifelong friend, Forrest Shairer; and many loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Paula Bunn Luzader. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life was held on her birthday.
