Manuel F. Fernandez, age 83 of Swansea, Illinois, passed away Nov. 4. Manny was born March 7, 1938 in a small coal-mining community in Kentucky. He soon moved to Barberton, where he graduated high school and was the high school mascot. He earned his Economics and Finance degree from Kent State University, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. For many years he was a salesman for Stryker Medical Supplies. Over the past thirty years, Manny became accomplished at restoring old toys, including metal pedal cars, trains and trucks. He was a resident of Garland, Texas from 1982 – 2014, at which time he moved to Swansea Illinois; he missed the warm Texas weather and his friends and colleagues in Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Fernandez and Amanda Fernandez (nee Johnson). Surviving are his step-son James (Debbie) Hale of Belleville Illinois; his five grandchildren; and his sister Frances Miller of Willoughby Hills, Ohio.
