Barberton Middle School locked down for threats

Shortly after the school day started today, Barberton Middle School got an email threatening a bomb and other violence.

According to Superintendent Jeffrey Ramnytz, the school went into lockdown and the Barberton Police Department responded, ultimately determining the threat to lack credibility.

The school day continued, although parents who wished were allowed to retrieve their children.

The same parents on here complaining about the schools are probably the same parents who let there kids carry weapons in public parks and pull there kids out of the school system. Let there kids run around in the middle of the night. Have no control over them and then complain about the schools.

People in this town should be calling for the heads of every official and school board member and demand they be fired or resign immediately!

For those of you who think the school did the right thing they would have been searching for survivors and pulling bodies out of the rubble had this been real. There are some things that call for lock down and others call for an evacuation. They picked the wrong one.

As a student in the Barberton School District I myself can say that the whole situation was handled horribly. Locking students in their classrooms for over three hours is not how you should protect the kids. It is time to see that there is an issue. This is the third time we’ve been threatened in just a couple months. barberton schools WAKE UP.

All you folks who have all these great ideas should be running for school board instead of on here and on Fakebook posting your complaints. Throw your hats in the ring and make your voices heard by getting on the board!

The school did the right thing. Keeping the students in the school. It is more safe than removing them. It could have been a false call by a shooter waiting for students to come out of the building and then he has easy access to victims. Almost all bomb threats are just that – threats. No, parents should not be called immediately after police. The police need to investigate and clear the school, not deal with all the crazy parents who would be running to the school. No, students do not need cell phones in school. The school personnel will do all they can to protect their students, and again, police do not need hundreds of parents showing up and getting in the way and possibly putting people at a greater risk. If you do not trust your police and school personnel to keep your child safe, move away or home school.

IF THE LOCK DOWN WAS AT 7:55 .We ALL should have been notified IMMEDIATELY NOT 3 hours later these are OUR CHILDREN’S LIVES. IF THE THREAT IS REAL OR NOT WE SHOULD BE NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY. Be Safe Barberton Family’s . Prayers for Our Little Town

I hate that the school never notifies us parents until after the situation. After the police are informed we should be informed next. Not after it’s handled. Also this is another reason I think kids should be allowed to have their phones on them. Not in lockers. They should be able to get ahold of their parents immediately if they feel unsafe!!

  13. Parents job not the schools on December 14, 2021 at 11:27 am

It’s not the schools fault there are threats, it’s the parents fault for raising a lil turd calling in these threats.

The message I got didn’t sound like they knew for sure it wasn’t credible. Sure they said it wasn’t in the first half of the message but they are still investigating the source and credibility in the next sentence.

A bomb threat & other threats of violence just a week after a student was arrested for making threats against the school. Why ARE there still children in the school?  Why not use remote learning until the threats stops & those making them are in the custody of proper authorities?  Too many young lives have been lost without any warning. How may warnings are we gonna get before REAL steps are taken to protect the lives of our children & educators?
