BMS bomb hoax came from overseas, police say

Bob Morehead

Herald Staff Writer

Detectives in Barberton investigated and know where the Dec. 14 bomb threat at Barberton Middle School came from.

“The Barberton Detective Bureau continued the investigation and discovered the origin of the email and account owner name,” Barberton Patrolman Marty Eberhart said. “The email originated and was sent from outside the United States.”

Eberhart said detectives had reached out to federal authorities as well as officers in the originating country in Europe.

Shortly after the school day started Dec. 14, the middle school got the email threatening a bomb and other violence. The school went into lockdown while staff and police searched, finding no evidence of a threat and determining the email was a hoax.

“The school’s safety protocols worked as designed and at no time were any students or staff in danger or at risk of any physical harm,” Eberhart said.

My late grandfather, H.A. Pieffer, was principal of B.H.S. for 38 years. He once had a call saying there was a bomb in the school. Fearing it could be true he called the Barberton Police and spoke to an officer known as “Killer Cole”. Cole told him, “Aw, don’t pay any attention to it.” He followed the cops directions and there was no bomb.

I think we should have a riot and a protest and march up and down the streets screaming profanities over this. You know that always makes a difference. We should all meet at LAKE ANN and start from there. Who’s in?

Because of this decision they would have been pulling our dead children out of collapsed and exploded rubble if it was real. They need held accountable now so change can be made incase a real threat occurs they or the people who replace them on their job will know what to do. There are some things that call for a lock down and some things that call for an evacuation. A bomb threat should have been an evacuation. Idiots!

Is it just me or does it seem stupidly dangerous to lock down a building that possibly has a bomb in it?. So if this is what they do when a possible bomb is in the building what would they do if there is a tornado? Would they go outside for a tornado but lock themselves in a building that supposedly has a bomb in it?. Barberton administration building needs a change of administration. This administration has been one failure after another with talks in the process of other possible failures. It’s like everything they do is always the wrong choice and everybody else can see it but them. If this was a real event they would caused deaths as our rescue crews would have been searching for bodies underneath the rubble.

Even my own son who attended this school said “I was thinking if there is a bomb or something we would be stuck in there and exploded with it”. I was thinking the same thing. Why a lock down for a bomb threat?. Pretty bad when a 6th grader can figure this out but the idiots in charge cant. I hate this school system more each day. Yes they tried but in a real life even they would have failed us. I’m pulling my kids out of this school system and paying for private schools. This isn’t the only failure they been letting us down on lately but by far one of the most dangerous. Stupidity is dangerous.

Like are you guys trying to kill people, “Oh let’s go on lock down even though we got a bomb threat” IF THERE WAS AN ACTUAL BOMB IN THE SCHOOL AND IT EXPLODED, you know how many lives y’all would be putting in danger but NOOOOO YALL DON’T CARE for Students SAFTY nor there HEALTH. Like it’s a BOMB THREAT, BOMBS = EXPLOSIONS = DANGER = DEATH then y’all wonder why half the schools on lock down PLUS BHS is right beside BMS but y’all lock down BMS and not BHS like if BMS explodes then the fire and all the eruption will go to BHS causing it to catch on fire as well but some of you principals can’t think straight.

Good luck. BPD can’t even catch criminals locally even when told where they live let alone overseas. This ought to be good!
