The U.S.D.E.A. nationwide drug take back day is today, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Between those hours, police personnel will be assisted by members of Magic City Kiwanis to receive no-longer-needed prescription medications from the public. To participate, drive into the old First Merit parking lot at 480 W. Tuscarawas Ave., and hand your meds out the car window to the officer.
It is not necessary to park and get out of your vehicle. At the end of the event, the meds are boxed up to be collected by a representative of the Federal Government for environmentally safe destruction. Since Barberton joined this effort, approximately seven years ago, over 2,200 pounds of pills were collected here. Deterra bags will be given free to anyone who wants them for use at home to mix pills with water, seal the bag, and place it in the trash.
If you are unable to bring your meds that day, there are two secure drop boxes downtown. One is a red box in front of the Main Fire Station, 580 Wooster Road W. and the other is in the basement of the City Building in the police station at 576 W. Park Ave.
