Sharon Rae Smith

Sharon Rae Smith, 67, was called home to her heavenly Father May 19, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born to Raymond Melton and Betty Melton Kinsey Aug. 3, 1954 in Akron, Ohio. She attended St. Augustine Catholic school in Barberton and graduated from Norton High School in 1972. Sharon attended beauty school following her graduation and was a cherished hairdresser and friend to many customers for 50 years. Sharon married the love of her life, John Smith, Oct. 4, 1975, and they raised 3 children together. Sharon was passionately devoted to her family, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Throughout the struggles of life, Sharon remained steadfast and strong in her faith, as well as in her devotion to help others. She was an amazing role model to everyone she met and possessed unmatched honesty and a beautiful sense of humor. Sharon was a fiercy devout servant of our Lord and was not only devoted to God but actively participated in various activities to serve others through her parish, St. Francis de Sales. Even during the most painful and trying times of her sickness, and when unable to physically attend church, her faith shone through. She was truly a wondrous example to others and a faithful child of God.  Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Melton, and sister, Carol Ann Stevenhagen. She leaves behind her mother, Betty Melton Kinsey, loving husband of 47 years, John Smith, children Leia (Dan) Ellis, Dan Smith, and Chase Smith, grandchildren, Zach and Audrey, brother, David Melton (Pam), and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many friends, including her beloved dogs, George and Gracie. Sharon was consistently and resolutely opposed to any pity or sorrow attached to her battle with cancer and departure from this world and instead, expressed gratitude to God in regard to all He has provided her in this life. Special thanks to Summa Barberton Hospice for their caring compassion when it mattered most and to special friend, Kim Bilick, for helping her during her times of need. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial and mass will be held in Sharon’s honor Friday, May 27, at 10 a.m. (Memorial at 10 a.m. and mass at 11a.m.) at St. Francis de Sales Church in Coventry. In light of Sharon’s giving and compassionate nature, those wishing to donate in her memory are encouraged to contribute to any charity that helps make this world a better place.

Thank you for being a great aunt. You made my life better just by being who you are. I’ll never forget your kindness and all of your good cooking. You knew how to make the holidays truly memorable. You were a steadfast rock in the storm.

So sad to hear if her passing, but knowing her she would want us to be anything but sad. The salon just hasn’t been as joyful since she retired we all miss her incredible laugh and crazy life stories. When I saw her I knew her body was ill, but when she spoke that same gregarious Sharon that we all new and loved was ever present! She truly inspired me with her commitment to God her family and all who’s lives she touched. This world has lost a very special lady, but heaven has been patiently waiting for her arrival. Prayers to Betty and John and the entire Family. Thinking of you all❤️
