James “J.J.” Jernigan

James “J.J.” Jernigan, 80, passed away Dec. 4. Jim was a proud graduate of Barberton High School where he was an accomplished athlete playing multiple sports. Jim worked first as an Ohio State Highway patrolman before entering the insurance business and spending over 30 years at The Cincinnati Insurance Companies.  J.J. was very honored to be inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in 2006. He was also past president of the Akron Claims Association and proudly chaired the golf outing for many years.  James was preceded in death by his first wife, Darlene (Rittman) Jernigan and is survived by his daughter, Kim (Eddie) Beeny; son, James (Tish) Jernigan; daughter, Michelle (John) Kirda; three grandchildren, Jake, Jordan and Cooper; loving companion, Judy Uber; along with other family members and friends.  Jim’s funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. at the Campfield Hickman Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton 44203 with Rev. Rod Grabski officiating. Burial to follow at Lakewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family Friday, Dec/ 9 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Barberton All Sports Boosters, 555 Barber Road, Barberton, OH 44203
