Magic Mayhem

Barberton Middle School

The Barberton All Sports Boosters will have its Magic Mayhem festival at Barberton Middle School before the home football opener versus Stow. The event will feature music, a 50/50 raffle and local food and merchandise vendors. 

Sharkey Stadium

The Magics (1-0) host Stow-Munroe Falls (1-0) in their home opener. It will be their first game on the new turf at Rudy Sharkey Stadium.

Lyon's Den Golf Course

The Casa Del Ranchero Restaurant annual golf outing will be Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Lyons Den Golf Course, 6347 Manchester Ave., NW in Canal Fulton.

The cost is $80 per golfer and $50 for a hole sponsor. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and a shot-gun start at 8 a.m. Anyone wishing to be a hole sponsor should send a check payable to the BCF Safety Forces Fund, 460 W. Paige Ave., Barberton, OH 44203.

Those wishing to be in the golf game may pick up a form at Casa Del Ranchero, 564 W. Tuscarawas Ave., and pay the fees at that location. For more information call 330-753-8494 or 234-303-8697. Reservations and payment in advance are required. Skill and door prizes will be awarded.

Barberton High School will host the 2019 Magic City Soccer Classic, with the girls and boys both playing Keystone. The girls team opens the event at noon while the boys follow at 2 p.m.

The Magics host the Black Tigers in the annual Battle of the Bell game. Barberton has won the past four matchups versus Cuyahoga Falls, who is 2-0 for the first time since () after beating Normandy and Springfield. The Magics are 1-1 after beating Norton and losing to Stow in the home opener.

BCF Sports Complex

ReWorks will be hosting a document shredding and recycling event Saturday, Sept.14, at the BCF Sports Complex at 841 Wooster Road W. from 9 a.m.-noon. The event is free to Summit County residents and businesses. There is a limit of 10 file boxes or 10 paper shopping bags per vehicle.  

ReWorks will hold an additional free on-site document shredding and recycling event Saturday, Oct. 5 in Akron.

The Magics open Suburban League play with a rivalry matchup against Highland in Granger Township. Barberton has won the past three meetings.

Norton’s girls soccer team will make the short trip to Barberton to play the Magics. The teams tied 1-1 in Norton last season, with Barberton’s Megan Schanz and Norton’s Cami Emerling scoring the goals.

The Barberton High School class of 1965 will celebrate 54 years at Huston Hall in Norton, Saturday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. The cost is $28 per person for a buffet dinner with a cash bar.  Please RSVP by Sept. 7 and make checks payable to BHS Class of ’65, PO Box 1304, Bath, OH, 44210. Sept. 21, 9 a.m.-noon at the Ohio Veterans’ Memorial Park in Clinton. There will be a program honoring BHS and all military veterans, with dedication of a standing granite monument. Back for its 29th year, the Barberton Mum Festival will feature 17,000 mums in bloom to create the BEST floral design you have ever seen! Entertainment will include water ski shows, canoe races on Lake Anna, roving entertainers, unique food vendors, chalk art, sand sculpting and children’s activities.

Class of ’66 celebrates

The Barberton class of 1966 will have a 71st birthday party Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Barberton VFW at 7 p.m. This is the Saturday of Mum Fest, so enjoy the festivities and spend a few hours with classmates. Anyone who wishes to play golf that day should call Barberton Brookside and make tee times. This will be the last opportunity to play at Brookside as it will be closing this fall.
