The Norton Historical Society is pleased to invite Barberton Herald readers to its annual corn roast, which takes place rain or shine August 19, 2021, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Norton Community Center. The cost for dinner is $12 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-11, and no charge for children under 5. Cash is preferred for payment; credit cards are not accepted.
With their payment and enjoyment of our delicious, fresh-picked Seiberling Farm corn and abundant side dishes and desserts, guests will be supporting the preservation and education efforts of the Norton Historical Society. The Society’s latest project is the restoration of one of Summit County’s last, intact one-room schoolhouses, the Loyal Oak Schoolhouse on South Cleveland Massillon Road. The schoolhouse began operation in 1864 and continued to serve students into the 1920s.
Corn roast attendees will hear about the project and can have their photos taken with the evening’s “guest of honor” – the handmade cupola that holds the schoolhouse bell, which will be placed on top of the schoolhouse soon!
The Norton Community Center is located at 4060 Columbia Woods Drive, Norton, OH 44203 – within a 15-minute drive of most of the Barberton Herald’s readership.
Guests can also support the Society’s efforts by purchasing raffle tickets on-site for chances to win one of several custom-designed gift baskets (6 tickets for $5 or $1 for individual tickets), and/or they can buy one of the Society’s useful schoolhouse-themed gifts, whose proceeds benefit that project. Donations can also be made in care of the Norton Historical Society, 4060 Columbia Woods Drive, Norton, Ohio 44203. Please follow the Society on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/nortonhistoricalsociety. The Society hopes to see you at the corn roast!
