The nationwide U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration(US DEA) drug take-back day will be Saturday, Oct. 26 at the old FirstMerit parking lot, 480 W Tuscarawas Ave., 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Unwanted or expired prescription drugs may be driven up and handed to a Barberton Police Officer, under the direction of Chief Vincent Morber. There is no need to park your vehicle and get out. Over 1,200 pounds of pills have been removed from Barberton since this initiative began. Deterra bags will be available for pick up at no cost which can be used to destroy prescription meds in your own home and put in the trash. All year round there are secure drug drop-off containers in front of the Barberton Fire Station, a red box, 580 Wooster Road W. and in the basement of the Barberton Police Station, 576 W. Park Ave. When the event is concluded, an agent of the US DEA will pick up the collection to be destroyed in an environmentally safe method.
